At Phoenix Eye Wing Tsun, we believe that learning a martial art, is about more than just techniques & physical fitness. It's about having the right mentality when you walk in through the door.
We don't need your ego, you don't need to be at your best every time. Classes are for learning, growing, pushing yourself further than you think and with that you get both physical and mental growth. Training is easier when you feel good, but the key to success is showing up even when you don't feel your best.
Our philosophy, rooted in the traditions of Chinese Kung Fu, emphasises respect, self-discipline, and perseverance. We strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students can engage, practice, learn, grow, and become part of a Kung Fu family.

Our syllabus is based on the teachings of The Phoenix Eye Wing Tsun Association. In our martial arts classes, you will learn a wide variety of Wing Tsun techniques and applications.
Beginners cover essential self-defence training, the first form Siu Nim Tao, footwork, drills, ground fighting and sparring, as well as valuable communication and de-escalation techniques.
As students advance they practice the next form, Chum Kiu. They they learn to handle tricky or multiple opponents and weapons defence. Students also begin Chi-Sao (sticky hands), which enhances their sensitivity and reflexes, crucial skills in close combat.
By Grade 12 (Black Belt), students have had the opportunity to learn the third form Biu Jee and subsequently move on to training with the Wooden Dummy and Long Pole, further enhancing their martial arts capabilities.

Sifu Daniel Buckland (5th Practitioner Grade)
I achieved my 5th Practitioner Grade at the end of 2024. It marked a huge milestone in my journey to master level after a long and challenging path. Completing this in the year of the Dragon felt even more special, as I was born in the year of the Dragon.
My passion for martial arts has been with me since childhood, inspired by icons like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. I explored a few martial arts classes, but nothing truly resonated with me until college, when I discovered Wing Tsun through a flyer. After my trial lesson, I was hooked and now, 20 years later, my love for Wing Chun remains strong.
Throughout my journey, I've trained in various countries and learned from many teachers. I am eager to share that knowledge, including essential self-defense training and Wing Tsun techniques, with anyone willing to learn.

Wing Tsun (Wing Chun), is a Southern Chinese martial art. It specialises in close-range contact, fast dynamic movements and centerline control. Emphasising simultaneous attack and defence, utilising economical motions for maximum efficiency. It designed to be practical, easy to learn but hard to master.
Wing Tsun has grown and evolved into a modern martial art. As the art spread across the world it had to adapt to different styles and people. The system didn't change but applied it's principles to make it better.
The Wing Tsun Workout is deeply rooted in the traditions of Chinese martial arts; Discipline, Dedication, and Determination. We blend tradition with a modern approach to training, self-defence, and fitness.
Our system is recognised by the BCCMA (British Council Chinese Martial Arts) as an authentic Chinese martial art.
